No other input, years ago this would have had at least 3 pages of responses. When it was fun to read this after tourneys. Now just the same old teams wanting/needing players.

1. Storm Apple- got better, played very strong this fall
2. FC- Schow- played well, didn't travel
3. Storm Putz- solid
4. Brun- see #2
5. FC Padilla- underachieved
6. Bombers Day- see #2
7. Fusion
8. Suncats 04/05- Heard both teams use 04/05 age group, not sure who is better, or if they are just still 1 large team

Had to edit, forgot the other Storm team.
I'd drop putz to 7 or 8... Flip flop Brun and padilla...and add fc guardian/drewry, fc walding, and fc Marquez after putz... Most underachieved for sure fc padilla
Most overachieved Brun
But not a surprise... Coaching is the big difference...

Omar stay off replying on this site. You are a coach of the premier AZ organization now who obviously really knows Arizona softball and it looks bad when you post usually to defend yourself or others, even though you cant spell the coaches name correctly you are ranting and raving about. On that note, Scott is doing ok but nothing more than ok. Those kids he is developing will move on as they get older and want to play for teams / coaches that really get them better by playing the best, not the local tournaments Omar pats you on the back for.

Heres my list of teams and where they stand!!

1. Storm Apple- Nobody even close to them in this age group. They are a first year team that should be a contender for a big finish at PGF this year and should do some real damage next year. That is as long as they don't fall flat on their face like last year at PGF! Hopefully he can keep this together and keep making pitchers dad happy week after week. With KT they have a chance.

2. Storm Putz- In the shadow of Apple but also a first year team, they have the best coaching in this age group and get better each week. They travel and keep getting their kids better each time for it. This is a team that can beat anyone on the list at anytime. This is my pick to be up in a top spot sooner than later.

3- FC Padilla / Kaye- Smoke and mirrors at its best. This is the best team on paper with a coach who is in WAY over his head. Randy put his name to the team to recruit the kids and has been around very little but did what he needed to make this happen. This team doesn't see their summer schedule with the same roster they have today. It is weeks away from blowing up. As long as pitcher / umpire dad is happy it will seem like its working like clock work but far from it!!

4, 5, 6, 7 or 10 depending on which powerful local tournament they just won. Brun- Oh the mighty ex gold coach who has her and her dad on a pedestal of the best duo ever to grace us with their presence. They are a great local team who typically dodge the teams above them on this list. And lets face it, they really do deserve the money lol!

5-10 who cares. None of them will be playing PGF this summer and will they really pass up the teams listed above. I think not.

Like someone said in a post last year. This is called Travel ball for a reason. Playing local teams in your own age group doesn't cut it but for some it's them winning the world series at times.

Obviously after seeing 14u this fall its so disappointing and egos galore. Very few teams are even trying to do what Apple and California are doing even though you can see it works. It will be exciting to see how some of this shifts around after the holidays or after high school at the latest. FC really counting on this age group to feed into Randys team but in can't survive with a coach who has no clue how to coach at the level those parents expect.

Im sure it will ruffle some feathers for the AZ-FC peeps but sometimes the truth just sucks.

Talking about national competitors, in your definition pgf or bust, I think you are on the right track. Pgf is the best of the best and it takes a special group to make noise there and to even attend... The strongests of teams have gone there and sent packing after 2 games. But we do have some good teams in Az. If they just opened their view point a bit could possibly set there summer plans there. Unfortunately many of these coaches are afraid to fail. And not because of the fear of loss but because of the fear of losing their players because of crazy parents with no vision but their kid's own. It's not cheap to attend a pgf tournament and many teams just don't think the risk is worth it. However, the showcase tournaments are afordable (not cheap) and that is also where az teams should open their pocket books to attend. Not just for the exposure but also for the higher level of competition. Tcs is still a good experience to Cali softball but pgf is definitely where the top teams strut their stuff.

Your top 3...
1. Storm Martinez (Appel)... Will be the face of az 14u softball come pgf... But until they can actually do something at pgf let's layoff the Kool-Aid a bit. Adding kt for sure solidified that groups chances. But also adding coach Martinez boosted that teams chances.
2. storm putz is a good team with good coaching but just because you traveled to Cali 2 times, and if you do a bit of research they were 1 and done at tcs monster mash after destroying a few no name teams in pool play, , make you pgf contender at the national stage... Once again layoff the Kool-Aid a a bit...
3. Fc Padilla definitely on track on that one... Don't need to say much more than what you said... Only thing I'd add is that i think you have the wrong tag on "... As long as pitcher / umpire dad is happy..." I think the other pitchers parents are the ones calling the shots over there...

Summer is many months away and high school ball can definitely be rough on14u teams. Will be interesting if there is any movement during Christmas break as well...

Man this is way to good not to jump in on this one !!
1. Storm Mathis/Martinez/Appel It's known and obvious Martinez is taking this team to a whole different level. Time to just turn the reins over to him.
2. Storm Putz Good team, good coaching
3. Firecrackers Show getting better, and better every time out.
4. Bombers Day also getting better every week.

After that you pick (Vendetta Kunze, Heat Juanito, Firecracker Pomroy) agree with the previous posts Kaye Padilla is almost done, sounds like families are setting up their next moves and he is in way over his head. Please don't count Brun in, she hides and runs from competition and continues to badger her athletes. She continues to brag about how good she was back when she was skinny does not deserve ranking. Anyone that would walk from what she had needs to just walk away period.

It's the final day of 2018! Good luck to everyone in 2019!

IMO Here are hands down the top 3 14U teams this fall/winter:

1. Storm Appel - we can talk and post for days about how good this team is and bright the future looks, there's no denying they're the top dog. They have an elite coaching staff, and are the real deal.

2. FC-AZ Schoeneweis - good coaching, well disciplined girls, Scott's had the core of this group since 10s and it shows, they play as a team and get better each time they play.

3. AZ Bombers Day- one of the most exciting teams to watch play. Same as #2, Day has had the core of this group together since Falcons, they don't rely on one player the entire roster gets the job done!

Every year about this time it all starts anew.

Appel’s squad - be it Hot HotShots 01, Killer Bees 01, or any of the more recent editions - is gonna go to the the next level.

Then, at that next level - Summer time, Colorado, PGF - Where it really matters...

I heard 2 more girls left firecrackers kaye/Padilla and also a coach and his daughter left Saturday. Something doesn't sound right over there if people are leaving. And also heard 14u firecrackers pomeroy is done.
Tournament got rained out so not sure how the standings went.
