Winning Is Meaningless

Post by jim990 » September 19th, 2016, 4:06 pm

It has become so difficult with this generation of athletes to enlighten them that winning is meaningless if it requires no commitment, effort, or work ethic.

Even many of the coaches of today fail to understand this simple fact.
We have too many people involved in youth athletics today who base far too much on achievements and not enough on growth.
The win at all costs mentality.

As a species we learn best from failure and the harder or bigger we fail the faster we are more apt to learn.
Some of the greatest players I have had play for me learned far more from a bad at bat, bad inning, a loss, or a bad season than they ever learned from winning in a run rule.

Few and far between are the athletes who embrace this logic any more and even fewer are the parents /families who understand that winning is not everything, especially if it comes to easily.
